Starshine - A challenging puzzler set in the cosmos
Another puzzler, this time a bit more mind-bending, Starshine, by Hero Interactive, is visually similar to Ferry Halim’s (Orisonal) Starry Night (another game You Should Play), but the similarities end there.
You take the role of a dot encircling a group of stars. The goal: find the ideal location to fire a shooting star toward the apex of the orbit into another star, causing it to explode in an array of even more shooting stars, thus igniting other stars, etc. and so on.
Why should you play?
Its simplicity in design and presentation really hammer a solid mechanic. Any more features and I think the mechanic would have been ruined, or, at least, made far too complex to be interesting.
What’s wrong with it?
Unfortunately, missing a target by a hair is excruciatingly common, not to mention frustrating. Not even the keenest of eyes is enough to avoid the inevitable cycle of shoot/miss, shoot/miss. Forcing the player to move the mouse to the center of the screen to retry each shot causes her to lose her position, making hairline adjustments impossible. Players having particular trouble with their aim should be given the option of a shot-guide, to help them line up their fiery bullets.
